Worth the Drive: Let’s Talk Oscars!
If you’re already drafting your ballot for the 98th Academy Awards, you won’t want to miss this pre-Oscars celebration on Thurs Mar 12th at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute (only ~35 min drive from PXV!). In partnership with 6abc Philly, the institute is hosting a movie-lover meetup where you can talk predictions, debate snubs, and maybe even compare your Letterboxd Top 4s with fellow cinephiles. The event will be hosted by Dana Stevens of Slate’s Culture Gabfest podcast.
Tickets are free, but there’s a limit to two per person. Snag your tickets here.
The Academy Awards air on Sunday March 15th from 7-10pm on ABC or streaming live on Hulu.
Curated Itinerary: Romanticize Life in Phoenixville
After putting out the call on Instagram, one theme kept coming up: more tips on slowing down and romanticizing everyday life in our town.
You don’t have to move to a European village or totally reinvent yourself to romanticize your life. You just have to decide that an ordinary day in Phoenixville is worth savoring.
Here’s some inspo:
Take yourself out on a solo date
Kick off your solo date with dinner at Vintner’s Table. Grab a seat by the window for people-watching, or a seat by the fireplace for coziness. You can’t go wrong with the gnocchi mac and cheese and a glass of wine (or a mocktail). If you’re new to the art of solo dining, then bring a book to help ease into it.
After dinner, stroll down Bridge Street to the Colonial Theatre for a movie. And yes, you should get popcorn.
Your night doesn’t have to end after the credits roll. If you’re enjoying yourself, then head down Bridge Street to see the new renovations and grab a nightcap at Bluebird Distilling.
Unplug at a cozy coffeeshop
For a few hours, power off your phone and settle in for the morning or afternoon (or both) at a local cafe. Let yourself sip slowly, read a few chapters of a good book, or just watch the world go by. If you’re in between books, Reads & Company has you covered with their staff picks.
Best for conversation: Life’s Patina Mercantile
Warm, welcoming, and ideal for an unhurried catch-up with friends
Best for connecting with nature: Butterscotch Pastry Shop
Listen to the babbling brook while enjoying a latte and a sweet treat
Best for people watching: 260 Bridge Cafe
Especially if you snag a spot on their balcony overlooking Bridge Street
Go for a walk while listening to a new album
Take in some of that almost Spring air while enjoying some music. Not sure what to listen to? Make a quick stop to Forever Changes Vinyl Lounge or the Record Shop to ask the teams for their recommendations.
Best for the hyperlocal: Reeves Park
Nestled into the Phoenixville borough, plus the park has plenty of benches for a well-deserved rest in the sunshine (or a game of chess!)
Best for side quests: Schuylkill Canal Park & Schuylkill River Trail
A simple walk can quickly turn into a new adventure, including lunch at Fitzwater Station or Lock29, adorable entertainment at Reynold’s Dog Park, or even a run in with Upper Schuylkill Valley Park’s resident wolves
Best for exploring: Natural Lands’ Binky Lee Preserve
The sprawling nature preserve with multiple trail options is only 15-minutes from downtown Phoenixville
So go ahead: stop to smell the metaphorical flowers, take the long way home, and let Phoenixville do the rest.
Adoptable Dog: Koda the Border Collie Mix
With his oversized ears and sunny personality, Koda is ready to find a forever home to call his own. Learn more about Koda here.
